Ian Campbell: Course tutor
Editor | Subeditor | Writer | Journalist
MEN Media | Trinity Mirror | Liverpool Daily Post
I am the tutor on CMP’s webediting, subediting, blogging, business writing, webwriting, business blogging and English writing skills courses.
I have been involved in writing, editing and subediting copy throughout most of my career.
As a journalist, I developed a strong command of English grammar, spelling and punctuation, along with the ability to write clearly, concisely and with the reader in mind.
As a member of management, I became experienced in writing effective memos, reports, emails and other documents to directors and management team members.
I worked as a revise editor on the Daily Post in Liverpool, checking the final page proofs, and made corrections before releasing the pages to the production department for printing.
I also liaised with production and printing staff to resolve any technical problems and made sure deadlines were met.
I have also proofread publications including books, short stories and college teaching aids, and also produced a number of stand-alone publications, from what’s on guides to programmes for sporting events.
These involved checking the final proofs and liaising with production staff.
As a regional daily newspaper subeditor, my duties included checking copy for factual, grammatical and punctuation errors, and working to tight deadlines.
I worked for the Daily Post and the Manchester Evening News as a page designer and subeditor.
I was also an editor of a local newspaper and website within the MEN Media group, and am experienced in all areas of webediting.
