A distance learning course studentI enrolled to brush up on proofreading skills to use in my current role as an IT Trainer, when producing or checking documentation. It would also be useful for me to consider stand-alone work as a proofreader.

I was very impressed with all aspects of the course. The learning material was of a very high quality. Much care had been taken with the creation of the lessons. They were well structured, informative and logically ordered. The assignments were well-pitched and challenging.

Rachel was always prompt in responding to each submitted assignment. Her feedback and comments were extremely helpful in keeping me on track.

The course covered everything in great detail, was well-structured, very informative and really made you think about how to approach the work of a proofreader/copy editor. It also achieved the difficult balance of being accessible to both beginner proofreaders/copy editors and those with more experience.

The course taught me how to approach the job of proofreading/copy editing in a much more organised, considered way. Amongst the many things, I learned the importance of observing the client’s brief, where to find useful resources to help the proofreader looking at copy from the reader’s perspective, how to sharpen your proofreading ‘eye’, what to correct and when how to communicate changes – both on screen and on a hard copy.
