I am a qualified ESOL tutor which requires a very good understanding of grammar. That, coupled with an interest in writing and a rather obsessive tendency to pick up on errors, lead me into an editing role. It was a particularly natural progression while working in a country where English is a second language.

I have always believed in the importance of constantly updating one’s skills and I also thought that this course would validate my existing experience. It never does to become too complacent!

It did exactly what I wanted: confirmed what I knew, taught me more discipline and ways of doing things better, and introduced me to the finer intricacies of this profession.

The tutorial support was excellent. Rachel Finnegan provided surprisingly detailed and patient feedback given the amazingly quick turnaround. I had set myself a personal deadline for completing the course, and Rachel’s prompt feedback enabled me to meet my target.

I thought the content was very well-planned and presented. The sufficiently challenging tasks gave me a sense of purpose and a determination to get things right. It also covered a wide range of topics which guaranteed I would learn something new.

The opportunity to improve my knowledge of proofreading symbols was welcome. As was the new skill of Acrobat on-screen editing which I particularly enjoyed.

The lessons in general never left me with the feeling that I was covering old ground. There was always something in them of added value.

I think the course was set at the right level for both novices and those with prior experience, and the latter should be emphasised to potential students. I would recommend it to anyone looking for formal validation of their skills and experience.
