The course was more difficult than I anticipated, but that was a plus, because it indicated that it is a thorough and rigorous course. The assignments were challenging, but enjoyable.
Rachel has very high standards and does not allow any sloppy work. I respect that immensely, especially as CMP is a business, and it might, at times, be tempting to go easy on your paying customers! I also appreciated how quickly the assignments were returned to me.
The course covers a lot of ground, while making it clear that it is, and can only be, an introduction. The true learning will only come with practice. The lasting benefit is that I find myself automatically proofreading every text I come across.
I learned what proofreading and copy editing are, and the basics of how to do them. the supporting material I was introduced to, such as the GSG and the BBG were also enormously useful. It was good to know how to do on-screen and paper proofreading too – although I will need a lot more practice on both. My own writing has improved as a result of the course content and the challenge of the assignments.
