I do editing and proofreading for my organisation, but I have no formal training in it. I wanted a deeper level of knowledge about the practice, as well as structured practice and advice. I am also considering working as a freelancer on the side, and a certification as well as some information about how to be a freelancer was important for me.
This course met my expectations. It has been extremely helpful in my daily work, and it was very straightforward.
The tutorial support was extensive and prompt. I was very pleased and encouraged by my tutor.
The content was comprehensive and interesting. I feel prepared having completed it.
The main takeaways for me were the expectations of proofreaders and editors in various circumstances. It was also helpful to learn how to set boundaries around jobs, such as learning from the client what type of editing they are requesting and what that entails. I feel much more confident and grounded in my knowledge, which makes me feel like a real proofreader/editor instead of an amateur one.
Overall, I was very pleased with the course.
