I already had some copy-editing and proofreading experience, but the paid work scheme at the end of the course was the big attraction.

I hoped that it might get me some contacts or networking opportunities for this type of work after the course. The Daniel Deacon: CMP proofreading course graduate25% discount also helped me to make up my mind!

I really enjoyed the tutorial support and the quick responses to the work that I sent in.

I had tried another distance learning course, but being in South Korea meant it took a long time to send in work, have it marked and receive feedback: it was a postal distance learning course.

I quickly got in to a routine of working at night so that I could send in work ready for the morning in the UK and receive feedback. I was surprised also at how quickly I got things back.

Communication was prompt, reliable and polite, and the tutorial support was great.

I’m more of an interpersonal learner so being able to express my thoughts worked out well for me.

Cleland’s feedback was always detailed, supportive and constructive, and he went beyond supporting me on the course and advised me on updating my CV, which was very useful.

The course content was what I expected. I had taken a course before and I have been teaching EFL for 9 years so some of the early lessons were easy for me to complete.

Others were more challenging and satisfying. In all, I never felt overwhelmed or like I didn’t understand something. The teaching notes were good and all the extra links were very helpful.

I plan to go through them again and make my own document out of them so I can have a handy reference guide.

I learned that I was a bit better than I thought at copy-editing! I think part of me wanted validation that I could do this and that I had some kind of talent in this field, and completing the lessons and getting good grades boosted my confidence.

I learned mainly about libel and copyright since some of the other areas were things I have done before. I definitely will review these areas since they were the ones which challenged me most.

I’m even thinking about taking another course!
