Our online proofreading course teaches learners not to rely on AI.

Programs like PerfectIt and Grammarly can help proofreaders to work faster. But they won’t replace them.

And organisations that try to cut corners may come unstuck.

We tell our proofreading course students that these are some things AI cannot do:

  • Apply a style guide.
  • Accurately edit copy for a target audience
  • Understand specialised or technical subjects.
  • Understand and interpret complex client briefs.
  • Understand puns, slang and other local or national idioms.
  • Check for potentially offensive language.

So, it’s best to treat AI tools like an advanced spellchecker. They’re useful, but not completely comprehensive.
