Proofreading course students should check that links are used properly

Each link must justify its place. They should never be used for the sake of it, but should be there for a reason.
Many websites use them indiscriminately which can take people away from the story / website unnecessarily, or they can simply be confusing. How often have you clicked on a link and then asked yourself: ‘What am I doing here?’
When editing a link, ask yourself the question: “How will this link help the reader achieve this webpage’s prime purpose?”
Each webpage must provide information that fulfils the visitors’ immediate needs – quickly. So, make sure that every links helps to achieve this purpose.
