There’s a market for religious articles these days. We have a section on it in our creative writing course

But, like any other article, they must generate interest. They need the wow factor, otherwise, people won’t bother to read them. We tell our creative writing course students to remember, they’re writing an article, not an essay for their RE teacher!

The problem is that your faith might be fascinating and significant to you – but thoroughly boring to everyone else. There’s nothing necessarily unique or unusual about what you believe or why.

So how do you create interest? The answer is to relate some of your own experiences. Find an occasion when your faith helped you through a difficult situation. Tell the story, just like any other article.

Remember, writing about religious experiences is no different from writing about travel experiences. People love to read about other people’s lives, provided it’s interesting.

Maybe you have suffered from physical or mental illness. So you could base your article around those experiences. How you found your faith help you survive or maybe the questions that you were left with.

Remember, religious articles can be controversial too, so it’s important to treat other people’s beliefs with respect.

The key is to make your faith real and vibrant though anecdotes and personal experiences, illustrating how your beliefs have worked for you.
