Subeditors undertake a range of production duties, including:

  • Fact-checking, editing and rewriting copy.
  • Writing compelling headlines and standfirsts.
  • Working with images and designing pages using desktop publishing software.

Our online subediting course will train you in all these areas. And when you graduate, Accreditation logosyou will receive the respected CMP Charter Mark as well as an accredited diploma.

We also teach you the essentials of media law and techniques for meeting tight publishing deadlines.

Our subediting course has been independently endorsed under the ABC Awards’ Quality Licence Scheme. So, when you finish, you will receive the ABC Awards level 4 diploma in subediting, and a learner unit summary. This lists the subjects you have studied.

The ABC diploma guarantees that you have been assessed at level 4 standards, and are competent to practise. ABC Awards is a leading national awarding body, and is regulated by Ofqual.

In addition, you will receive the fully accredited CMP diploma in subediting, which is recognised in the UK and beyond. It proves you are a qualified subeditor.

As a subediting course learner, you will work 1-2-1 with Ian Campbell, who is a professional subeditor and journalist.

Ian has been a journalist for 25 years, and worked for the Daily Post in Liverpool, and the Manchester Evening News as a page designer and subeditor.

He was also the editor of a local newspaper and website within the M.E.N. Media group.

He will mentor you, mark your assignments, and give you expert advice.
